The French collection built by the museum’s founders, Wilhelm and Henny Hansen, still forms the very core of Ordrupgaard. In just three years (1916–18), they created a collection that was instantly considered one of the most significant outside of France. It still is. At Ordrupgaard you will find exquisite works from the Romantic period, early realism, the Barbizon School and not least Impressionism, featuring artists such as Manet, Monet, Renoir and Gauguin. The superb collection of Impressionist pastels is particularly distinguished and quite unique.
