ANN LINN PALM HANSEN

MOVING MOTIF

In summer 2026, Ordrupgaard presents a special exhibition by Danish contemporary artist Ann Linn Palm Hansen (b. 1984). Working across visual art and writing, Palm Hansen is known for her distinctive and thoughtful exploration of colour and form as a way of examining how we perceive and understand the world.

Moving motif invites visitors into an intriguing journey between abstraction and figuration, exploring the rich aesthetic and conceptual terrain that unfolds between the two. Palm Hansen’s practice is driven by curiosity and inquiry, with an emphasis on asking questions rather than providing answers. From a systematic, almost mathematical approach emerge works that are both sensuous and poetic, encouraging reflection and personal interpretation.

The exhibition features 94 works, presented in Zaha Hadid’s exhibition hall, where the raw concrete surfaces form the backdrop for a sensory, immersive experience of colours, shapes, and some of life’s most fundamental questions.

“I explore the relation between figuration and abstraction. The human body and the horse serve as my points of departure. These figures offer an immediate sense of scale and create an intuitive entry point, allowing the viewer to situate themselves within the work and engage with it directly.”
