SUMMER WORKSHOPS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
SEA CREATURES AND BANANAS
Starting Saturday, June 28, we open the doors to two creative workshops for the whole family. Get up close to the artistic process alongside several of the artists currently exhibited at the museum. Learn and play with colors by mimicking Jean Gauguin’s ceramic techniques, and step into the stop-motion studio of artist duo Djurberg and Berg to take part in the co-creation of an animated video piece!
The workshops are open every day during the museum’s regular opening hours, and you’re welcome to explore and play on your own.
JEAN GAUGUIN’S CERAMICS WORKSHOP
What happens when we mix colors? What do color, texture, and shape mean for a figure? Are blue figures cuter than yellow ones?
Jean Gauguin was a master ceramist who understood form, color, and whimsical figures. In the workshop, you can learn about ceramic techniques and conduct color experiments that mimic the artist’s glaze samples. After your time in the workshop, you can take your own “glaze samples” home or hang them up to inspire other children’s experiments.
DJURBERG & BERG’S STOP-MOTION STUDIO
Animation, sculpture, and sound are the foundation of Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg’s artistic practice. Nathalie creates the characters, and Hans composes the music that accompanies the humorous, grotesque, and boundary-pushing scenarios played out in their work. Together, they create a playful and provocative universe where you never quite know if you’ll find a banana peel or a space rocket around the next corner.
We’ve built a stop-motion studio in collaboration with Nathalie and Hans, because the artists want to share their love of animation with you. In the workshop, you can build your own characters, set up a scene, and record your very own stop-motion film.
Djurberg and Berg’s stop-motion studio is staffed from 11 AM–4 PM on the following Sundays:
- July 20 and 27
- August 3 and 10
On these days, you can get help creating your stop-motion film. Of course, you’re also welcome to visit the studio on your own on the other days – there’s a guide in the studio to show you how.
Note: You’ll need to use your own phone in the workshop. Feel free to download the app Stop Motion Studio in advance. That way, you can start filming as soon as your characters are ready.
