This Year’s Christmas Table by Dorthe Kvist
This holiday season, Danish garden architect Dorthe Kvist transforms the historic Ordrupgaard Manor House into a scene of festive magic. Here, where founders Henny and Wilhelm Hansen hosted memorable Christmas celebrations in the early 20th century, Dorthe Kvist brings her own artistic touch with a nature-inspired Christmas table.
The display features dried flowers and handmade paper blooms arranged to capture the eternal cycle of nature. Mixing fresh spring buds with the fading beauty of late-summer flowers, Dorthe Kvist’s creation forms a stunning backdrop for the table, set with the Hansen family’s monogrammed porcelain and crystal glasses.
“Nature is my biggest source of inspiration,” Kvist shares. “It’s simple yet complex and always perfect, no matter how much we try to recreate it. Nature is our foundation for life and must be respected and protected, especially today.”
Kvist’s floral theme is a tribute to Henny Hansen, who adored flowers and grew them in the estate’s greenhouses. Her love for nature filled Ordrupgaard with color and fragrance which can still be seen in the manor house’s art and furnishings.
Visit Ordrupgaard to experience this enchanting Christmas table and celebrate the beauty of nature this holiday season.
